VICE President Noli “Kabayan” De Castro today commended the efforts of Naic, Cavite Mayor Efren C. Nazareno for placing under preventive suspension barangay captain Conrado P. Delos Santos following complaints that he is allegedly responsible for the proliferation of professional squatters in Bgy. Bucana Sasahan, Naic, Cavite.

Around thirty (30) families, who were relocated by the Public Estates Authority from Freedom Island to Naic, Cavite have reportedly sold their lots and became part of an entire colony of informal settlers settling in the said barangay.

Due to the vigilance of the Local Government of Naic and the active intervention of a barangay community association, the Gabay ng Ginintuang Layunin, complaints were filed against the barangay captain and the alleged professional squatters. The complaints merited the filing of an administrative case before the Sangguniang Bayan.

Once it is established that these families are professional squatters under the Urban Development and Housing Act (UDHA), appropriate legal charges against the 30 families will be filed. Criminal and civil charges will also be filed against De Leon, who, if found guilty of aiding and abetting these illegal squatting operations, will face punitive sanctions per Section 30 of the UDHA.

Inaasahan ko na itong magandang halimbawa ni Mayor Nazareno ay pamarisan ng lahat ng mga lokal na opisyal upang masugpo na ang walang pakundangang panloloko sa ating mga kababayan, sa pagbebenta ng mga lupa o “rights” sa lupa, sa pamamagitan ng paggamit ng mga pekeng sertipikasyon mula sa mga ahensya ng pamahalaan, pekeng titulo at pekeng desisyon ng mga korte”.
